We Do Not Know, Like, or Trust You
I have some very harsh words for you, right now. However, I am saying them in love, so I hope you receive them that way.
You are not getting the results that you desire in your business because your desires, your goals are not smart (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely).
Okay, maybe I should say that they are misguided. They are misguided because you are doing a little but expecting a lot.
You are studying or honing your craft, hardly at all, if at all, yet you are expecting clients or customers to flock to you.
You are open for business when “the spirit hits you” and closed when it does not; yet, complaining about not making any money.
And, finally, you are easily frustrated by the lack of return on your investment when you have barely invested anything–no time, no money, no blood, sweat, and tears.
Really? You couldn’t have thought it was going to be so easy. Did you?
At the end of the day, I can sum up your issue very simply:
People do not know you.
People do not like you.
People do not trust you.
Oooo….that did sound harsh, didn’t it? But, really. It’s not. It is the truth and only truth can set you free. As your personal brand strategist, it is my job to finally tell you the truth.
What YOU Have Failed To Do
I am sure you are adorable, gifted, talented, and called to do what you do, but here is the thing:
You have failed to establish three key components of a winning brand:
Think about anyone that you TRUST.
How did you come to trust him or her? You see?
Come on, now. You are smarter than that.
Time to Make Progress
Specialization means that you think out of the box enough to set yourself apart from your competition. You use systems and mentors to help you achieve goals and go through procedures or routines in an orderly fashion, Yes!!! But, you do not become the carbon copy of anyone. Success leaves clues. Yes!!! You are to follow the clues, but in doing so, you must carve out your own place in the marketplace. You cannot be a replica of anyone and expect your brand to survive. You must be yourself. You must be unique. You must specialize in a way that sets you apart.
Consistency is a big one. I need to bring something to your attention.
You are probably not the only person in your industry. Although, you are unique, and you bring a different twist to the game, there are others in your field vying for the attention of the exact target market that you want to attract.
Therefore, you must expose people to your brand on a regular basis.
- Marketing is about relationships.
- Business is about relationships.
- People do business with those they know, like, and trust.
The only way for you to build trust with your target market is to consistently be there over a long period of time. Typically, people do not notice or appreciate your brand until they have had multiple exposures to it.
So, as branding expert Peter Montoya says:”Keep the basic message the same and keep plugging away.”
People are watching you, whether you know it or not. They make a mental note of inconsistency and they make a mental note of commitment and dedication to your purpose.
They cannot get to know you, like you, or trust you when you are not there.
So, my prayer for you is that you either do something, consistently, on the pot or get off.
Think about it:
How many times would you frequent your favorite store, restaurant, church, website, video channel if every time you went there was sign that said, “CLOSED…Until we FEEL like opening again. Thanks & hope to see you then?”
