Venus, oil on canvas 48” x 60” 2019

Grab a snack and a drink. Forget your responsibilities. Spend three to five minutes viewing each painting. Let your eyes wander through color, space and shape.

Before you investigate further, Ask yourself a few questions.

  • Be honest with yourself and understand you don’t have to be an expert to enjoy a painting. Do you know anything about music to enjoy it? Do you know anything about literature to enjoy reading a good book. Well, the same goes for viewing a painting. Give yourself permission to just look without feeling intimidated or ignorant.

  • You want to examine how well the painting makes sense. Does it look balanced or does it look incomplete, bare and lacking or too full of distracting elements?

  • The best thing to do is look at all the paintings an artist produces to see if they all look similar to each other. Last but not least, determine how original or unfamiliar it looks. Basically, if you have never seen anything like it, then you may be looking at quality art.

  • This is the most important question to ask yourself. Spend a decent amount of time viewing Kellie’s work, but if by the end of seeing everything and you still hate it. Then maybe this is not the work you want to purchase, but your opinion has nothing to do with the value of the painting itself.
